Canadian Association for Equality

This is a new organization in Canada that disguises itself as a charity for gender equality, but in reality they are a “men’s rights” group.  I contacted the founder of this association and he admitted that there are no 'rights' that men are currently denied; his goal with this “charity” is simply to increase the number of shelters for battered men.  He claims that 50% of domestic abuse victims are men (incorrect), and that more shelters are needed.  What this man did was he gathered Stats. Canada information, then edited it to further his agenda.  For instance, he didn’t mention that a number of domestic abuse accusations against women, were reported because the woman had to physically defend herself.  Or that the majority of complaints made by men involved pushing, throwing an object or kicking; whereas the majority of complaints made by women involved punching, beating, choking or sexual assault.  He also failed to mention that women are less likely to report abuses such as pushing or kicking, which clearly indicates that if women reported the same activity that men reported…the Statistic Canada numbers would be vastly different.

The Canadian Association for Equality uses the newly-coined term “misandry” throughout its website and promotional material.  This is a term used by “men’s rights activists” to describe feminists and the feminist movement.  Their claim is that bringing attention to violence against women is somehow showing hatred towards men.  This “association” claims that men are discriminated against within our courts regarding family, criminal, human rights and employment law.  They claim that men face barriers to employment based on their gender, though are unable to provide evidence of this.  Groups like this can’t seem to grasp the concept that providing specific services to a specific group in need, does not marginalize others.   Claiming that men are marginalized because of women’s services, is like saying that white people are marginalized because of Black Lives Matter.

Groups like Canadian Association for Equality are insidious.  They misrepresent their organization to garner support and donations.  The Canadian Association for Equality is a men’s organization; it has nothing to do with “equality”, and to state otherwise is false and misleading.

There is nothing wrong with having an organization that provides services to men, but own up to it.  Don’t use a name that misleads your intentions.  Ethical practices within Charities and Non-Profits are essential to their ability to effect change and improvement.
